I do use this blog as a personal blog as well as a test website for my hosting business. Well today I was doing an upgrade to Wordpress and the upgrade failed. Of course I hadn’t done a backup of the site before I started as all previous upgrades have gone without a hitch!
So I run the upgrade it fails, then I uninstall and reinstall Wordpress hoping that my data will still be there! Whoops restart and everything is gone. So I look for an old back here at home and I can’t find one on any of my PCs. I end up calling my hosting providor and ask if they can restore from the backup. 30 minutes later I have my data back! Thank you!
I lost my themes and some little tweaks I had made but no big deal as I will start testing some new themes on this site now. I am also hoping to post more on this site in the next little while!

I have posted a number of times over at my Main Blog site. http://sysguy.com/wordress, about the Photo sharing sites that  use.

There are actually 4 sites that I am using now. 2 are less active and I will be concentrating on two. My two favorites are Smugmug and Flickr. Here are the links to my sites:

You may have read the post I put up a couple of months ago regarding the TV show Jetstream on Discovery Canada Channel. I had inquired with the production company about the availabilty of the series on DVD.

Yesterday in my Inbox I got the following note:

Just an update for you that we are releasing the Jetstream DVD Box Set with over 30 minutes of never seen before bonus material at the end of June. We have your email and will contact you with the details once they are finalized.

Best,

The Jetstream Production Team

Jetstream was a great show following several Canadian CF-18 Fighter Pilot Trainees through the course.

I am really looking forward to the DVD release!

I just finished listening to Douglas Adams’ Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency audio book from Audible.com

The audio book is is actually a dramatization by BBC Audio Books starring Andrew Sachs (Fawlty Towers), Billy Boyd (Lord of the Rings) and Harry Enfield (Several British TV Shows and Commercials).

It is a fairly short read (3 hours and 49 minutes) but it is quite memorable. There are several quotes that I really liked from this book, "These lunch breaks are becoming daily".

If you have read any of Douglas Adams’ (Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy series) books you should really enjoy this book.

The story revolves around the murder of a wealthy businessman and the unusual way the the Holistic Detective, Dirk Gently (Enfield) who usually finds missing cats for old ladies, ,solves the case and clears his University friend Richard MacDuff (Boyd) using his special talents. I don’t want to give away any more of  the ending!

I chuckled out loud several times during the listening of this book. While short it is very well done with good sound effects and ambience.

I highly recommending listening to this book or reading the print version.

Following up on my post from yesterday, I sent an email to the email address for information on the Jetstream.ca site. Today I actually got a reply from them. Is there a DVD in the works???

Are there plans to release Jetstream on DVD in the next little while? This has been an amazing show that my whole family has enjoyed. My 10 year old daughter named one of her stuffed animals Riel after watching.

If there will be a DVD release is there any way of being notified of a release date?

Is another series planned?

Thanks

The response that I received today!

Thanks so much for writing, and for your kind words about Jetstream. It’s so great to hear about families being able to watch the show together. I’ve forwarded your email to the series producers and directors at Paperny Films, the production company behind the show.

There’s no official word yet on a DVD release, but we’ve had a number of requests, so hopefully it will be in the works. I’d recommend checking back on the Jetstream website — http://jetstreamonline.ca — for updates.

As for related series, Paperny is currently in pre-production on a series called "Battle School" about our ground troops. I don’t have any more information than that at this time, but keep checking back with their website — http://papernyfilms.com — for news.

Thanks again for writing, and for watching the show!

I have to hand it to Discovery Channel Canada. They put together another amazing reality show! I just caught the end of the last episode of Jetstream, a show that followed Canadian CF18 Fighter Pilot trainees with the 410 Squadron at Cold Lake. I am hoping that Discovery puts this show out on DVD! I would purchase immediately!

Since I was a kid and to this day I love absolutely everything that has to do with fighter planes and the people that fly them.

If you haven’t caught any of the show, I am sure Discovery Canada will be re running it over the next little while, but you can see excerpts and catch ups at http://www.discovery.ca or visit the show site at http://jetstreamonline.ca.

Even my 10 year old daughter was fascinated by this show. If you liked the movie Top Gun you are sure to love this show!

Spent my 2 Audible credits today… I had to make a difficult decision. There were 4 books I was interested in but could only choose 2. Here are what I am looking forward to listening to.

Charlie Wilson’s War by George Crile

The Stupidest Angel by Christopher Moore.

Since listening to a Dirty Job by Christopher Moore, I have been hooked on his books although they are a little silly. I now have all of his books in either Audio format or paperback. I have also gotten SWMBO hooked on him as well. While his books are not for everyone we thoroughly enjoy them.

Watch for my quick reviews after they get the listen.

I just recently finished listening to Douglas Adams’ Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy read by Stephen Fry. Although I have read the original books, listening to the audio book was a pleasure and allowed me to relax and get truly caught up in the story. Stephen Fry does a superb job of reading it and truly brings out the characters.

This is just under a 6 hour read.

I have the other 4 books of the "Trilogy of 5" and am looking forward to listening to those although they are not ready Stephen Fry.

I highly recommend this book

Stephen

I have just created a new category here called My Reading. This will contain Brief descriptions of books that I am reading or listening to from my Audible account. Check back if you want some ideas on what you can read.

For anyone that is interested in audio books, I have an account with Audible.com. This is a monthly subscription, I have the Platinum Subscription, that gives me 2 credits a month for 22.95 USD, where I can download one or usually 2 audio books a month. While I find I have to really concentrate when I am listening to a book, I really like the experience.

I like the audio book format as I can listen when in my car, lying in bed or sitting somewhere. Often I find that I get more immersed in a book while listening. I do have to watch out that I don’t try doing something that involves too much concentration or I’ll start to zone away from the book.

You can try this out. The Twit Podcast network, http://twit.tv is sponsored by Audible so they give users a free audio book to try it out. Just find one of their codes to sign up and try a book. Audible, http://audible.com supports a great many devices, except for the Zune, so books are playable on most devices. I have found many great books that I am enjoying via the suggestions in the Podcasts.  Audible has over 45,000 titles so you are sure to find a book that you will enjoy.

Try out audible if you want and keep coming back to see some of my reading suggestions.
